ABSTRACT. In the modern world of globalization and rapid transition to a knowledge economy, the Global Innovation Index (GII) is beginning to emerge as one of the key methods of strategic planning for developing countries. Modernization of the economy of Uzbekistan requires not only internal reforms, but also a deep understanding of regional benchmarks. Objective. The main purpose of this article is to conduct a comparative analysis of the innovation profiles of the countries of Central Asia based on the GII methodology (2023-2025), as well as to develop precise strategic recommendations for Uzbekistan (taking into account the experience of neighboring countries). Methodology. The information base consists of analytical reports of the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization). In addition, the indicators “Innovation Input” and “Innovation Output” were used as key elements of the study. Results. The study identified the strengths and weaknesses of the regions’ innovation systems. In particular, the high potential of Kyrgyzstan in the field of institutional spending was noted, while Kazakhstan demonstrated more extensive development in the field of knowledge and technology. Based on the results of these cross-country comparisons, it became possible to formulate specific policy recommendations for Uzbekistan. Value. While the current descriptive analyses provide mostly theoretical insights, this study focuses more on the empirical basis of sector-specific innovation growth. The author points to the need to adapt regional integration of fintech, decentralized community tourism (CBT) models, and cross-border eco-clusters to optimize the innovation path of tourism in Uzbekistan, systematically improving its position in the Global Innovation Index, while creating tangible socio-economic well-being.
